The Presiding and Assistant Presiding Officers for the Ardo Kola State Constituency bye elections have undertaken a training programme put together by The Electoral Institute (TEI), which took place between 8th and 10th January 2018.
The training aims at equipping the participants with the ability to effectively conduct polling and counting procedures as well as the other electoral functions of POs/APOs.
The first day of training, which started at about 9:30am witnessed registration of participants and an overview of the agenda. Thereafter, a pre test was administered on the participants to determine their previous knowledge and prepare the basis for an evaluation at the end of the training.
Topics treated include Polling Day and Time, Code of Conduct and The Polling Team and Their Functions. Other topics treated on the first day of training include Safety and Security of Elections. The second session of the training focused on Polling Procedure, Voting and Accreditation, Declaring the Poll Open, Steps in Polling and Closing of Poll.
The second day of training treated Operating the Smart Card Reader, its components, Use of Query and Authenticating the Voter.
Sorting and Counting/Recording of Votes and Filling of Forms were also among the activities undertaken by the participants. Sensitive and non-sensitive materials and reverse logistics issues were also discussed.
