The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Zamfara State, Dr Asmau Sani Maikudi has paid courtesy visits to the State’s Director State Security Services (DSS), Mr. M. T Wakili and Commissioner of Police, Mr. Usman Nagoggo to inform them of her receipt of a letter from theSpeaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, announcing the death of a member representing Bakura Constituency. With the Speaker’s declaration, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is obliged to conduct a bye-election to fill the vacancy.
During the visits, which took place on 8th and 10th June respectively, Dr Maikudi thanked the security chiefs for their efforts in consistently providing adequate security that had enabled the Commission carry out its constitutional responsibilities in the state. She urged them to provide the same support for the planned bye-election, the date of which will soon be announced. She further promised to convene the Inter-Cconsultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting oncethe Commision unveiled the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the bye-election.
Responding, the two security chiefs pledged their continued cooperaton, assistance and support tothe Commission to the best of their abilities.
Meanwhile, the REC, in company of the management staff also paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Gusau Prof Magaji Garba.
During the visit, which took place on 11th June, Dr Maikudi solicited for the vice chancellor’ssupport and cooperation in the planned recruitment of students of the university as ad hoc staff forthe planned Bakura State Constituency bye-election.
Responding, Prof. Garba thanked the REC for the visit and assured her of the institution’s willingness to work with the Commission.
