In line with best practices, the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Training Department on 21st September began a three-day training programme for would-be Presiding Officers (POs/APOs) on polling and counting procedures, as part of preparations for the 30th September Eti-Osa, (Lagos) State Constituency by-election.

The training, which began at 2pm with registration procedures and a pre-test, also highlighted the polling day and time, functions of the polling team and the role of election personnel and stakeholders. About 50 National Youth Corps members who are to serve as POs/APOs during the election participated in the exercise that is also intended to ensure that they internalize and demonstrate the ability to organize and conduct polling and counting procedures effectively and efficiently.

The Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Sam Olumekun visited the training venue.

The training is coming on the heels of an earlier two-day training programme for Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs), which took place from 18th to 19th September.
