Mrs. Amina Bala Zakari, an indigene of Jigawa State, completed her Secondary Education at the

prestigious Queen’s College Yaba, Lagos. She attended the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria where she obtained a Bachelor of Science, Second Class Upper degree in Pharmacy in 1980. She was also the Best Graduating student.

After completing the National Youth Service Corps scheme, she worked as a Pharmacist in various hospitals between 1983 and 1996. She then moved into the consultancy field, to serve in various capacities as a Consultant in Health and Social Services from 1997 till her appointment as National Commissioner at INEC. She has also served as a Special Assistant to the President and was posted to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where she served as Secretary of Health and Human Services, Social Development and Agriculture and Rural Development from 2004 – 2007.
Her Consultancy services covered Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) such as the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing (FMWH); National Agency for Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) as well as the private sector.
She’s a member of the Pharmacists’ Society of Nigeria as well as the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM).
Her other qualifications include: Certificates in Managing Drugs Supply for Primary Health Care, from MHS Amsterdam (1997); Project Management (1998), and Executive Education in Business Management from Harvard Business School.
