The Zonal Director, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Southwest Area Office in Oshogbo, Osun State, Mr Emmanuel Danjuma has presented some issues of concern to the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ondo State, Ambassador Rufus Akeju in view of the Governorship election scheduled for 10th October 2020 in the State.
The concerns, which were presented during Danjuma’s courtesy visit to the REC in Akure recently, include adequate provision of welfare and security for corps members during elections, prompt payment of honoraria on election day, improvement of the Registration Area Centres (RACs) and deployment of corps members to riverine and violent prone areas.
Responding, Dr Akeju thanked the Zonal Director for the visit and expressed deep regrets with the organization over the death of a Corps Member in a boat accident during the 2019 general elections. He assured Danjuma INEC would continue to take the safety, welfare and security of all Corps Members deployed for election as top priority.
He said the Commission’s determination for free, fair and credible elections as well as a safe environment on election day informed the release of the Code of Conduct for voters, security personnel and other stakeholders. He also noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has dictated the need to improvement the condition of the RACs.
He disclosed that the training of Police Officers and other security agencies that will partake in election duty by INEC will guarantee a better secured electoral process.
