The Electoral Institute (TEI) has commenced the training of Presiding Officers (POs) and Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs) in preparations for the Kware/Wamakko Federal Constituency election in Sokoto State.
The three-day training programme, which commenced on 21st October and ends today, is particularly important because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would be piloting its new initiative of transmitting results electronically (e-transmission) from Polling Units.
The TEI Trainers received a special briefing from the Commission’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) team on the new process and are expected to cascade it down to the SPOs as the training gets underway. All the SPOs and TEI Trainers are also expected to introduce the POs/APOs to the new procedure.
About 1,379 participants are taking part in the programme which has been divided into two groups. The first group will undergo training at the Government Day Secondary School, Wammakko with not more than 60 per class. A total of 169 others will also be trained at the Government Day Secondary School Centre, Kware, also at the rate of 60 per class.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Sokoto State, Mr. Jibrin Ibrahim Zarewa told the participants at the opening on 21st October to take full advantage of the training in order to achieve a credible election.
